If you are looking for a raw, authentic side of Mumbai that blends colonial history with stunning modern views, Worli Fort is an underrated must-visit. It is not a manicured tourist spot, but its charm lies in its location and the journey to get there. 🏰 History in Brief Often mistaken as a Portuguese fort, this structure was actually built by the British around 1675. Strategically located on Worli Hill, it was originally used as a lookout tower to monitor Mahim Bay and spot enemy ships/pirates. Walking through the fort, you can still see the old ramparts and bastions that have stood watch for over 300 years. ✨ Specialty & Views The Contrast: The biggest selling point is the view. You stand on a 17th-century fort ruins while looking directly at the ultra-modern Bandra-Worli Sea Link. The contrast is photogenic and iconic. Sunset Point: This is easily one of the best (and less crowded) spots in Mumbai to watch the sunset over the Arabian Sea. Cultural Experience: To reach the fort, you walk through the Worli Koliwada (fishing village). It offers a vibrant glimpse into the life of the Kolis, Mumbai’s original inhabitants. 🕒 Timings Open: Generally accessible from 5:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Best Time to Visit: Late afternoon (around 4:30 PM) so you can explore the structure in daylight and stay for the sunset. Avoid visiting late at night as the area is secluded. 🛣️ How to Reach (Important!) By Train: Nearest stations are Lower Parel or Prabhadevi. From there, take a taxi to "Worli Koliwada." The Last Mile: Taxis/Cars cannot go all the way to the gate. You will have to get down at the entrance of the fishing village and walk for about 10-15 minutes through narrow, winding lanes. The walk is safe, but be prepared for strong fish smells and busy village activity. 💡 Pro Tips for Visitors: Footwear: Wear comfortable walking shoes (sneakers/sandals). The path is uneven, and the fort stairs are steep. Photography: Bring a wide-angle lens if you have one; the Sea Link spans the entire horizon. Amenities: There are no washrooms or food stalls inside the fort itself. Carry your own water. Fitness: There is a bit of climbing involved (stairs), so it may not be suitable for elderly visitors with mobility issues. Verdict: A perfect spot for history buffs, photographers, and those wanting a quiet escape from the city noise. The walk through the village might be overwhelming for some, but the view from the top is absolutely worth it.

Worli Fort offers a serene view of the Arabian Sea and Bandra-Worli Sea Link. Though the fort is small and not very well maintained, the location is scenic and perfect for a quiet sunset. A good place for photography and some quiet reflection. Best visited in the early morning or late evening. Limited parking and cleanliness could be improved. The way to the fort is a narrow lane that passes through the dirty slum houses !
