The best, Hidden and the most Underrated Fort in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region which just mostly a 10 Minutes walk from Sion Railway Station. Very Calming Place with Cool vibes of the surrounding Garden and absolute History which provides Panaromic views of the entire Mumbai City 😍, You name it from Sion Railway Station Station to Kurla Railway Station F.O.B and the Hills of Ghatkopar beyond, from Eastern Express Highway to Mumbai - Navi Mumbai Atal Setu Bridge and the views from the Skyline of Dadar to The Metro Bridge near Bandra Railway Station over the Bandra Creek and the Bharat Petroleum Factories can also be seen with Hills of the Eastern Mumbai 😍 , everything from Central Line, Harbour Line and Western Line is visible 😍🚆👍🏻

If you are looking for a quiet escape from the city chaos without leaving Mumbai, Sion Fort (Sion Hillock Fort) is a perfect, underrated spot. It offers a rare blend of colonial history, nature, and stunning skyline views. Here is a detailed breakdown for future visitors: 🏰 History & Significance Built between 1669 and 1677 by the British East India Company under Governor Gerard Aungier, this fort holds immense strategic importance. It originally marked the boundary between British-held Parel Island and the Portuguese-held Salsette Island. It served as a watchtower and military outpost to guard the northern borders of colonial Mumbai. Today, it stands as a Grade I Heritage structure. ✨ Specialty & Highlights 360-Degree Views: The biggest selling point is the view. You can see the Eastern Express Highway, the salt pans of Thane Creek, and the modern skyline of BKC all from one spot. Architecture: While much of it is in ruins, you can still see the old stone ramparts, a cannon, and the remains of the watchtower. The Garden: The fort is situated within the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Udyan, a well-maintained garden at the base which is great for a morning walk or for kids to play. ⏰ Timings & Entry Timings: Open daily from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Entry Fee: Free. There is no ticket required. 📍 Location & Access Nearest Station: Sion Railway Station (Central Line). It is a walkable distance (approx. 500m - 10 mins) from the station. Landmark: Near the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) office. ⚠️ Important Details & Pro-Tips Be Careful: There are no railings on some of the upper fortification walls. Please be extremely careful, especially if you are visiting with children. Facilities: There are no food stalls or water available at the top. Carry your own water bottle. Best Time to Visit: Sunrise or Sunset is magical here. The monsoon season also turns the entire hillock lush green, making it a photographer's delight. Accessibility: You have to climb a series of stone steps to reach the top. It is an easy climb for most, but might be difficult for senior citizens or those with knee issues. Verdict: A must-visit for history buffs, photographers, and anyone looking for a peaceful sunset spot in Mumbai.

Sion Fort is a peaceful little escape in the middle of the city. The climb is easy and takes just a few minutes, and once you reach the top, the view of Sion and the surrounding areas is really refreshing. It’s a great spot for a quick morning or evening visit, especially if you enjoy calm places and a bit of history. The fort is simple but well maintained, and the greenery around adds to the charm. A nice place to relax, walk around, and enjoy the breeze.

Good old place with a garden and a old fort at top with a nice trail of acending steps. A very beautiful view of the city from top of the fort and the old beautiful architecture of the fort/mostly what is left of it. kindly be cautious with your kids as some of the side walks and fort areas are not having hand railings and protections. Preferably plan visiting in morning and evening hours and with no down pour as the place is some what on a hill top and mostly without roof top. Plan with water and snacks at hand(No shops once you enter inside). Ps: Kindly dont litter, felt bad seeing the whole place dumped with plastic bottles and the walls and stones scribbled with rubbish.
