Sanjay Gandhi National Park was my go-to place during my college days. Whenever the city chaos felt too overwhelming, this was the one place where I could find peace. Sitting quietly between the greenery, fresh air and jungle vibes always felt therapeutic. It’s beautiful how a place right in the middle of Mumbai can make you feel so disconnected from the noise outside. So many peaceful memories attached to this place.

I recently visited the Kanheri Caves and it was a truly memorable experience. The place is calm, peaceful, and surrounded by greenery, making it a perfect escape from city life. The ancient rock-cut caves and carvings are impressive and full of history. It’s a great spot for both nature lovers and history enthusiasts. There is quite a bit of walking involved, so wearing comfortable shoes is recommended, but the scenic views and overall vibe make it completely worth it. I would definitely recommend visiting this place, especially in the morning.

Sanjay Gandhi National Park is honestly one of Mumbai’s biggest blessings — a massive green forest sitting right inside a crowded metro city. The moment you enter from the Borivali gate, the temperature drops, traffic noise disappears, and you actually feel like you’ve stepped out of Mumbai. The park is extremely well suited for long walks, cycling and slow exploration rather than rushing through it. The highlight is the Kanheri Caves trek/ride, which combines light adventure with history and great viewpoints. The roads inside are clean and wide, making it comfortable even for families and kids. Early mornings are the best time as you can spot monkeys, birds and sometimes deer along the road. The lion & tiger safari is short but enjoyable, especially for first-time visitors. Food stalls and washrooms are basic but adequate; the park focuses more on nature than commercialization. Weekends get crowded near the entrance, but once you go deeper inside, the place becomes peaceful again. Overall, SGNP is less of a tourist attraction and more of a breathing space — perfect for detoxing from city chaos, casual fitness activities, and relaxed weekend mornings. One of the rare places in Mumbai where you actually feel nature instead of just seeing it.

Visited on 24 May 2026 at around 4:43 PM. Since I arrived in the evening, I stayed mostly near the entrance area and didn’t explore much inside the park. The overall experience was pleasant, with a smooth entry and exit process and no long waiting time. I was carrying a camera and was charged a Non-Professional Photography Fee of ₹314, in addition to the ₹339 entry fee for 3 adults, making the total ₹653. While the process was straightforward, visitors planning to bring a camera should be aware of this additional charge. Even though I spent only a short time around the gate area, the surroundings were clean and well-maintained. Overall, it was a hassle-free visit, especially for a quick evening outing.

Visited on Saturday, was quite crowded. If you are coming on weekend, be ready to stand in long queues everywhere. Flat parking charges Rs 325 for 4 wheeler. At the main gate ticket counter, you need buy entry tickets which includes entry and 2 small museum visits though they are not a must and quite small. Toy train and boat ride tickets are also available at the ticket counter. Paddle boat ride ticket prices vary for 2 seater and 4 seater boats. They pushback on giving all tickets at once if the place is crowded, but better to get all at once if you don't want to come back again for queues. Jungle safari tickets also available at the same counter which includes free bus ride. But only 3 buses are operating and queues take more than an hour on weekends. Though it's worth the wait as it's the main attraction. During Safari expect to see 1 lion and 6-8 tiger/tiger cubs. Didn't go to kaneri caves since I went there around lunch time and could only cover the rest. If you want to visit everything then start in the morning. Carry light food and water bottle and expect long walks in you want to stroll. Point to point autos charge Rs 20 and buggy charge Rs 50, but both are difficult to find other than from starting points. Best to hire cycle if you want to just explore the place and relax.
