Morbe Dam, located near Khalapur (about 30 km from Navi Mumbai), is the primary water source for the city. It has become a popular offbeat destination for those looking to escape the city's hustle without traveling too far. The Experience The dam is known for its serene, expansive lake surrounded by the lush green hills of the Sahyadris. Unlike more commercialized spots like Lonavala, Morbe Dam offers a quieter, more raw nature experience. It is particularly popular among cyclists, photographers, and those seeking a peaceful spot for deep conversations. Key Highlights * Scenic Beauty: The reservoir stretches out endlessly, reflecting the surrounding mountains. It’s a "goldmine" for photography, especially during sunrise and sunset. * Monsoon Charm: While it is accessible year-round, the monsoon (June–September) is the best time to visit. The landscape turns vibrant green, and the overflowing dam creates a powerful, misty atmosphere. * Filming Location: You might recognize the scenery; it has served as a backdrop for various movies and music videos, including Slumdog Millionaire and the song "Lean On." * Activities: It’s ideal for low-effort hiking along the banks, birdwatching in the early mornings, or a simple lakeside picnic. Important Considerations & Safety * Restricted Access: Currently, entry to the main dam structure and the road along the top is often restricted for security and safety reasons. Most visitors enjoy the views from the perimeter or specific "sunset points" nearby. * Limited Amenities: There are almost no food stalls, restrooms, or seating areas at the site itself. You should pack your own water and snacks. For a proper meal, visitors often head to nearby spots like Sangram Dhaba in Karjat after their visit. * Safety Warning: Swimming is strictly prohibited and dangerous. The reservoir has submerged rocks and shifting silt that can be life-threatening. * Lack of Infrastructure: The final stretch of road can be narrow, and there is no street lighting at night. It is highly recommended to visit in your own vehicle and leave before dark. Travel Tips * Best Timing: Reach by 6:00 AM to 7:00 AM to catch the mist over the water and avoid the midday heat. * Route: If you are driving from Navi Mumbai, the route typically goes through Panvel and Chowk via the old Mumbai-Pune Highway. * Pack Smart: Bring a picnic mat, plenty of water, and a power bank, as mobile network coverage can be spotty.

The entry is prohibited due to some reasons by the authorities so you can visit but at your own risk. Try going towards the sunset point, you find so many spots to sit and spend a good time. Though the place is quite peaceful unless you find a group of uncivilized people playing loud music at such places.

Went here recently the place is closed for visitors. Only allowed to sit at this resting place with shed, very close to the gate. Just saw one group go inside with his car he has contact with someone apparently. So he was allowed however normal public is not allowed with vehicles inside you can sit for a few minutes but not much to explore. Not a tourist spot actually but if you're close by it might be a nice place to just relax a bit.

The dam is closed for bikers or any visitors to enter the side lanes as you see in the earlier reviews mentioned which offered off reading experience as well as one can go near to water shores. There is a security placed now who stops you and only locals or villagers staying around are allowed. I was informed by security that there has been two murders happened recently after which this restriction has been placed. The water body is very scenic and there is one waterfront hotel coming up which will offer dam water view and will be worth visiting. For now, dont plan like we went on impromptu bike ride as i live in navi mumbai and thought will be a quick weekend gateway to unwind. There is other route from Karjat chowk which has off reading patch and takes you to the open ground and near to the dam water, this can be explored with ADV bike or single rider as 10 min offloading patch needs diligent riding and not rush through
