Marine Drive is easily one of Mumbai’s most iconic and loved spots. Evenings are buzzing with energy, but you can still find calm moments to enjoy a peaceful sunset overlooking the sea. The city lights at night are magical and something everyone should experience at least once. The rocks in front can feel a bit scary when you first sit down, but you get used to it after a while. A must-visit for anyone new to Mumbai.

Watching the sunset at Marine Drive feels timeless. The sky melts into pinks and golds while waves hum beside you. Locals stroll, couples pause, and the city finally exhales. Sea breeze, salty air, and glowing lights create calm amid chaos. It’s Mumbai slowing down, reminding you to breathe, stay present, and fall in love again at dusk by the bay.

Honestly my fav place in bombay. No matter how many times i come here, it just feels different every time. The view of the lights is crazy good (thats why they call it queens necklace lol). But man, its getting so crowded lately, specially near the pier side. If u want some peace, walk further down towards the air india building side, its bit more quiet there. Watch out for: The Rocks: Don't try to climb too deep into the tetrapods, seen way to many people slip and its dangerous during high tide. Bhuta/Chana guys: They will charge u double if u look like a tourist, just bargain a bit. Police: They start asking everyone to leave after 12:30 or 1 AM usually, so dont plan to stay all night. Its noisy, its crowded, and sometimes smells like salty fish lol... but its still the soul of mumbai. You cant miss it if u visiting.

Mumbai's Marine Drive, the iconic "Queen's Necklace," began as the British Back Bay Reclamation Scheme in the 1920s to create new land, with the crescent-shaped promenade completed by 1940, becoming a symbol of modern Mumbai, lined with glamorous Art Deco buildings and serving as a vibrant public space from its necessity-driven origins. Origins & Purpose: Back Bay Reclamation: In the early 20th century, Bombay needed more space, leading to this large-scale project to dredge the sea and create land for westward expansion. Engineering Marvel: The scheme transformed a stretch of sea into a functional, C-shaped boulevard, connecting Nariman Point to Girgaon Chowpatty. Name: While its full name is Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Road, it's known as Marine Drive, with parts named after engineer Sir Michael Kavanagh Kennedy. Construction & Completion: Early Stages: Reclamation started around 1920, with construction of the road and promenade beginning later, completed by 1940. Builder: The road and promenade were built by Pallonji Mistry. The "Queen's Necklace": Nickname Origin: When the streetlights illuminate at night, the curved promenade resembles a string of pearls, earning it the "Queen's Necklace" moniker. Architecture & Evolution: Art Deco Hub: The reclaimed land attracted significant Art Deco architecture, with wealthy Parsis and industrialists building glamorous, modern buildings along the stretch. Urban Heart: From a planned development, it evolved into a posh neighborhood and the lively heart of Mumbai's social scene, especially in the 1960s and 70s. Key Features: A 3.6-km long promenade along a natural bay. Connects Nariman Point to Girgaon Chowpatty. Known for its Art Deco buildings and vibrant atmosphere.

Marine Drive is the soul of Mumbai's beauty. This road, spread along the seashore, gives peace to the mind. In the evening, when the sun sets, the colors spread in the sky, the reflection on the sea and the cool breeze remove everyone's fatigue. At night, the lights on the road look like a necklace, hence it is called the "Queen's Necklace". Sitting here and thinking, chatting with friends or spending time with a loved one feels special. Marine Drive is a place for everyone to cherish memories. Marine Drive is the heart of Mumbai, a special place filled with love,🌊 memories and dreams, where you can relax while watching the sea, cool breeze and sunset.❤️😇
