Beautiful Spot, but Limited Access Guna Cave is a scenic attraction surrounded by misty forests and mountain views. The atmosphere is peaceful, and the natural setting makes it a pleasant place to visit. However, the caves themselves can only be viewed from a distance due to safety restrictions. The walk through the forest and the viewpoints still make the trip worthwhile, especially for those who enjoy nature. Overall, it’s a nice spot for a short visit, with greenery, cool air, and scenic charm, though don’t expect to explore the caves directly

Guna Cave is basically deep trenches between massive rocks and mountains, raw, dramatic, and mysterious. It’s famous for its cave formation (also known as Devil’s Kitchen). The boundary fencing keeps it safe, but the real highlight is the complex network of huge tree roots wrapping around the rocks, absolutely stunning and perfect for photography 📸🌲 Try to visit on a weekday. On weekends, it gets too crowded and you won’t enjoy the vibe properly. It's because one malyalam movie made manjummel boys. A must-visit spot in Kodaikanal if you love nature and unique landscapes.

I recently visited the Guna Caves in December, and it was an experience I’ll never forget! Nestled amidst breathtaking landscapes, the caves felt like stepping into a magical world. The cool, crisp December air made the trek much more enjoyable, and the slight mist around the cliffs added a mysterious charm. The hike up to the caves is moderately challenging, so I’d recommend wearing good shoes and carrying some water. Once you reach the caves, the view is absolutely stunning — the rock formations and the surrounding forest make it perfect for some serene moments and photography. I loved the sense of adventure, but I must admit, it can feel a little daring in certain spots, so it’s best to go with someone confident in trekking. What really stood out for me was the peacefulness of the place. December brings fewer crowds, so it felt like we had a private little escape into nature. The overall vibe is tranquil, yet exhilarating if you enjoy a bit of adventure.

We visited Guna Cave during our trip to Kodaikanal, and it was an amazing experience! The place has a mysterious charm, surrounded by tall pine trees and cool, misty air. The short walk through the forest to reach the viewpoint is scenic and enjoyable. Although entry to the actual cave is restricted for safety reasons, the roots, rocks, and fog around the area create an eerie and captivating atmosphere. The spot became famous after the 1992 Tamil movie Guna, starring Kamal Haasan, which is why it’s popularly known as Guna Cave. Its original name, given by the British, is Devil’s Kitchen. The recent popularity from the movie Manjummel Boys has attracted even more visitors. Even though the cave itself is not visible from the closed gates—due to overgrown forest leaves and grass—the viewpoint offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountain ranges. The location is absolutely stunning. Do note that many sections are closed because the cave crevices are extremely deep and dangerous, and steel gates have been installed to prevent accidents. This is a very popular tourist spot, especially on weekends, so expect crowds. Parking can also be challenging, so plan accordingly. I recommend visiting on weekdays for a calmer experience. Despite the crowd and traffic, the natural beauty and the cool weather make the trip truly worthwhile.

Guna Caves is a must-visit attraction in Kodaikanal. Located a little away from the city centre (around 8–10 km), it may take longer to reach, especially on weekends due to traffic. The place is known for its natural beauty, tall pine trees, and the massive, intertwined roots that create a unique and slightly mysterious atmosphere. The actual caves are currently closed to visitors for safety reasons, but you can view them from the secured outer perimeter. A watchtower has been built nearby, offering a scenic view of the surrounding valleys and forest landscape. It’s a great spot for photography and enjoying the cool, misty weather. Overall, Guna Caves is an ideal place for nature lovers and those looking to experience the serene and slightly adventurous side of Kodaikanal.
