We visited Guna Cave during our trip to Kodaikanal, and it was an amazing experience! The place has a mysterious charm, surrounded by tall pine trees and cool, misty air. The short walk through the forest to reach the viewpoint is scenic and enjoyable. Although entry to the actual cave is restricted for safety reasons, the roots, rocks, and fog around the area create an eerie and captivating atmosphere. The spot became famous after the 1992 Tamil movie Guna, starring Kamal Haasan, which is why it’s popularly known as Guna Cave. Its original name, given by the British, is Devil’s Kitchen. The recent popularity from the movie Manjummel Boys has attracted even more visitors. Even though the cave itself is not visible from the closed gates—due to overgrown forest leaves and grass—the viewpoint offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountain ranges. The location is absolutely stunning. Do note that many sections are closed because the cave crevices are extremely deep and dangerous, and steel gates have been installed to prevent accidents. This is a very popular tourist spot, especially on weekends, so expect crowds. Parking can also be challenging, so plan accordingly. I recommend visiting on weekdays for a calmer experience. Despite the crowd and traffic, the natural beauty and the cool weather make the trip truly worthwhile.

It's not just a cave; it's a deep network of chasms formed between three massive Pillar Rocks, believed by some to be the cooking area of the Pandavas during their exile. ​🎥 Important Facts & History: ​The Name Change: It shot to fame and earned its modern name after the iconic 1991 Tamil film Gunaa, starring Kamal Haasan, was filmed inside. ​The Mystery: The caves are sadly notorious for their hidden, deep crevices and dangerous history, with a number of unrecovered disappearances over the decades. This tragic reality has cemented its reputation as a mysterious and even eerie location (and was the basis for the 2024 film, Manjummel Boys). ​Current Status: Due to safety concerns, entry to the actual cave crevices is now completely restricted and sealed off by fences. You can only view the main area from a safe distance. ​✨ The Experience: ​The experience now centers on the scenic walk through the beautiful Pine Forest leading to the viewpoint. The huge, exposed, and twisted roots of the old pine trees here are incredibly atmospheric and make for fantastic, unique photographs.
