Gillbert Hill , an amazing timeless prehistoric marvel , right in the center of the city is a rare find , more efforts should be made to create awareness for protection and conservation of these rare preshistoric monuments not only by people but also from government , i saw a group of youngsters smoking on the stairs of the temple ,also there is not much cleanliness around the area surronding the hill , it is sad to see that today the prehistoric hill is only protected beacuse of the Gav devi temple on the top , and not because of its timeless prehistoric value The Gav devi temple is open for devotees from - morning - 7am- 12:30PM and 4:00 PM to 8:30 pm , The temple will also remain open for devotees on important religious days

A unique hill in the world. Made by volcanic eruption magma which got cool over the years. There are hardly 3-4 hills present in the world and one of them is in our Mumbai. Government is taking steps to preserve it. The road to reach Gilbert hill is very narrow and unclean. You can drive your 2 wheeler upto the gate. Cars won't find parking space. It takes about 10-15 min to reach the top. There is no entry fee. The view is mesmerizing. You can see the sea, the airport and the city. Good time to visit will be in the evenings before sunset. Post sunset the view of the city lights is captivating. There is a temple on the top with good seating arrangements outside. In the past one year the infrastructure is crumbling. Highly recommended!

Gilbert Hill is a 200 ft (61 m) monolith column of black basalt rock at Andheri, in Mumbai, India. The rock has a sheer vertical face and was formed when molten lava was squeezed out of the Earth's clefts during the Mesozoic Era about 66 million years ago. During that era, molten lava had spread around most of the Indian states of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, covering an area of 50,000 square kilometres (19,000 sq mi). The volcanic eruptions were also responsible for the destruction of plant and animal life during that era. Atop the rock column, two Hindu temples, the Gaodevi and Durgamata temples, set in a small garden, are accessed by a steep staircase carved into the rock. The hill offers a panoramic view of suburban Mumbai.

A beautiful heritage site with Durga mata and Hanuman mandir. The Pujari tell you many details about the mandir. Peaceful place on the top of Andheri. You should definitely visit once if you are in Mumbai.

Calling this monolith a rare site would be an understatement! This is a 66 milion year old piece of rock, and there are only three of these in the world. There's a beautiful temple of Durga on top with idols of Ganesha and Hanuman as well. Even if you aren't religious, everyone should visit this place at least once just to gawk and marvel at how amazing and old our planet is. How are we even supposed to comprehend something that came 66 million years ago?! PSA: Mumbai cab and autowalas know about this place but act oblivious to make you go round and round in circles and increase their fare. It happened to me and a few other travellers I found on top at the temple. And the priest there explained the same to us. I asked around locally and found other locations for landmarks. When boarding any transport, ask for Andheri Jamatkhana near Noor Masjid. Don't even mention you want to visit the Gilbert Hill.
